A driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury after a crash involving a BMW and a Ford F-350 Monday afternoon in Lake Elsinore, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jesus Garcia.
The crash occurred at about 12:27 p.m. Aug. 17 on northbound Grand Avenue just north of Blackwell Boulevard, Garcia said.
According to Garcia, the driver of the white BMW was traveling north on Grand Avenue and merged to the right shoulder to allow traffic to pass. When the driver believed it was clear, he attempted to make a U-turn to travel south on Grand Avenue.
The BMW turned directly in front of a white Ford F-350, and the Ford struck the BMW broadside, Garcia said.
When the fire department arrived, the BMW driver became agitated and left the scene, Garcia said. Riverside County Sheriff’s Office deputies located the driver at a gas station on the corner of Blackwell Boulevard and Grand Avenue.
CHP officers responded and investigated the crash. The BMW driver was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury under Vehicle Code section 23153(a), Garcia said.
The driver of the Ford suffered a sprained left wrist and was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center, Garcia said.
