The City of Lake Elsinore is offering up to 200 free swim lesson enrollments for children ages 6 months to 5 years old this summer.
The lessons will be held during the city’s Summer Aquatics Program at Lakeside High School from June 22 through the first week of August. Children will participate in age-appropriate swim lessons focused on water acclimation, foundational swim skills, and water safety techniques designed to reduce drowning risk.
At least 160 enrollments are reserved for Lake Elsinore residents, while additional spots will be available to residents and nonresidents based on demand. Registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The city is partnering with First 5 Riverside County and its drowning prevention initiative to offer the program. First 5 Riverside County is a public agency that provides programs and resources supporting the health and development of children from the prenatal stage through age 5.
City officials said the program is intended to help children develop water safety skills, increase access to swim lessons and remind families that drowning is preventable.
According to the city, drowning is one of the leading causes of injury-related deaths among children younger than 5, while near-drowning incidents can result in long-term medical complications.
“Every child deserves the chance to learn how to be safe in and around the water,” Mayor Bob Magee said. “We’re proud to partner with First 5 Riverside County to give local families this opportunity at no cost.”
