From Oct. 5 through Oct. 9, that portion of eastbound Riverside Drive will be closed around the clock as crews install a new manhole and complete sewer pipeline work at the intersection, EVMWD said.

Beginning Oct. 12, the eastbound lanes and intersection will remain closed through the end of October. Regular construction hours during that phase will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Drivers traveling eastbound should follow posted detour signs and use Grand Avenue to Machado Street to Lakeshore Drive as a detour route.

The work is part of EVMWD’s Riverside Drive Sewer Improvements project, which is replacing aging sewer infrastructure along Riverside Drive between Eisenhower Drive and Lakeshore Drive.

Construction on the project began in June and is expected to continue through early 2027. The project includes installation of a new gravity sewer pipeline and removal of an older lift station.

EVMWD said the project is intended to improve the reliability of the sewer system and reduce long-term maintenance needs.
