The Lake Elsinore Unified School District recognized four employees during its Sept. 10 board meeting as part of its monthly employee recognition.
According to the district, four outstanding employees are recognized each month for their work supporting students, parents and staff. The nomination categories include teacher, classified employee, certificated employee and administrator.
The September teacher of the month was Anita Rivera, a preschool teacher at Withrow Elementary.
Withrow staff nominated Rivera for creating a nurturing, engaging and developmentally appropriate learning environment where students feel safe, valued and excited to learn. Staff praised Rivera for building strong relationships with her students and their families. They also highlighted her patience and empathy when working with students.
“This award means a lot,” Rivera said. “ I work hard. I want all the kids to grow up and be positive to society.”
Rivera also said she wants students to feel that they belong in the community and to pursue their goals despite challenges they may face.
Maricela Godinez, a psychologist at Wildomar Elementary, was recognized as the certificated employee of the month.
Staff described Godinez as consistent, patient and dependable. Staff said she is focused on doing what is best for students and their families. Her nomination also highlighted her willingness to collaborate, help colleagues and problem-solve while maintaining a positive attitude.
“I come to work every day and I work really hard, but just being recognized is extra special to me,” Godinez said.
Godinez thanked her husband and colleagues for their support.
“I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without their support,” Godinez said. “And it’s awesome to be able to work together to support students, families and teachers.”
Michelle Prado, a Food Services employee, was recognized as the classified employee of the month.
Prado was recognized for putting the needs of the Food Services department and her coworkers first, helping with department tasks and committees, and looking for ways to improve processes and teamwork.
Prado said the recognition was meaningful because she attended Lake Elsinore schools from kindergarten through 12th grade and has worked for the district for 14 years.
“Being able to serve the students in the district, right where I grew up, is really special to me, so thank you for this wonderful award,” Prado said.
Scott Poncy, principal at Rice Canyon Elementary, was recognized as the administrator of the month.
Staff described Poncy as a humble and caring leader who is passionate about students. His nomination said he has made a positive impact on students, staff and families during his time at Rice Canyon. Staff said he truly lives the LEUSD mission to educate, equip, and empower every student every day.
“To be recognized as an administrator for the month of September is super humbling,” Poncy said. “I’m very, very appreciative of everyone I work with.”
